A group of scientists under the African Climate Reporters (ACR), alongside civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other environmental stakeholders, has congratulated the Kaduna State Government for emerging 3rd in the 2025 Nigeria Climate Governance Ranking.
In a statement issued to the media on behalf of scientists , Comrade Ibrahima Yakubu, Head of Communication and Strategies at ACR, expressed delight over the achievement and commended Governor Uba Sani for his unwavering commitment to promoting climate awareness and addressing environmental challenges across the state.
This milestone reflects the strong dedication of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, and the tireless efforts of the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Abubakar Buba, in driving impactful climate policies and advancing sustainable development in Kaduna State,” the statement read.
Yakubu described the achievement as a historic success for Kaduna, recalling that the state was ranked 16th last year, but through visionary leadership and collaboration, has now climbed to 3rd place, just behind Lagos (1st) and Katsina (2nd).
He added that, with God’s grace and continued effort, Kaduna could soon emerge first in the country.
The statement also commended the Pace Project Kaduna for its consistent work in raising public awareness, organizing training, and building the capacity of civil society organizations, government agencies, and community leaders on climate action and environmental protection.
Yakubu further urged all climate stakeholders to remain steadfast in the fight against desertification, deforestation, gully erosion, flooding, and other forms of environmental degradation that threaten wildlife, marine life, and plant species due to irresponsible human activities.
He also extended appreciation to Hon. Yusuf Idris Amoke, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Climate Change, for his tireless efforts in promoting tree planting campaigns across local communities to help mitigate extreme heat and reduce global warming.
According to Yakubu, Hon. Amoke’s participation in ACR’s monthly climate change dialogue sessions has inspired more journalists and scientists to produce reports and documentaries that educate the public on the harmful effects of environmental pollution and ways to promote sustainability.
Together, we are building a greener, cleaner, and more resilient Kaduna State. With the strong partnership between government, scientists, and civil society, we can make Kaduna the most environmentally friendly state in Nigeria,” Yakubu stated.
The African Climate Reporters also acknowledged the contributions of the Safety Awareness and Environmental Support Initiative, NEMA, SEMA, Red Cross, and other disaster management agencies for their commitment to early warning and rapid response systems that help prevent floods and other environmental crises.
Appreciation was also extended to the Department of Climate Change and Environmental Issues at the Interfaith Mediation Centre for using religious teachings to promote environmental stewardship and raise awareness on the moral duty to protect nature.
Finally, Yakubu once again praised the Pace Project Kaduna for its continuous support and partnership with the state government and other stakeholders, noting that such collaboration was key to Kaduna’s success in this year’s ranking.
“To our able Governor, Senator Uba Sani, we assure you that with your continued support and God’s guidance, Kaduna State will soon take the number one position in climate governance nationwide,” the statement concluded.
