A coalition of Christian clergies from Northern Nigeria has joined millions around the world in mourning the death of renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
In a condolence message issued on Thursday, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, alongside other prominent Christian leaders,Pastor George John, Reverend Maxwell Sanda, Pastor Joel Aziz, and Evangelist David Abaya,extended their heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Sheikh and to Muslims globally.
Pastor Buru described Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s passing as a “great loss to the nation,” noting his unwavering commitment to peace-building, religious tolerance, and unity in Nigeria.
He also conveyed condolences to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and leading Islamic scholars across the country.
Pastor Buru prayed that Almighty God grants Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Aljannatul Firdaus, while offering sympathy to all Muslim scholars and the Sheikh’s extended family.
Highlighting the Sheikh’s role in promoting interfaith harmony, Pastor Buru recalled that for the past sixteen years, Christian clergy from Northern Nigeria have visited Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s home during Ramadan to break the fast (Iftar) with him and other Islamic scholars,an effort aimed at strengthening Christian–Muslim relations.
He described the late scholar as “a pillar of peace and unity.”
Pastor George John also expressed sadness over the loss, noting that news of the Sheikh’s death began circulating early Thursday morning, both online and offline. He praised the Sheikh for his lifelong dedication to teaching, mentoring students, and fostering peace.
He added that Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi was “a father to all.”
The Christian clergy delegation extended their deepest sympathies to the immediate family of the late Sheikh.
