Kaduna Youths under the aegies of the Concerned Kaduna Youths Coalitions, has demanded for the immediate release of the former Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety, NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh.
The former NIMASA Boss was said to have been arrested by the men of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) at the weekend.
While addressing a Press Conference in Kaduna on Sunday, the leader of the group, Hon. Abdulrasheed Adekeye expressed disappointment in the way and nammer Bashir Jamoh was arrested.
According to him, ” Bashir Jamoh is a responsible citizen who deserves some respect, considering the manner in which he was arrested without any prior invitation to that effect. It is very unlawful, and as concerned citizens, we are demanding his immediate release.”
While addressing the Press, Adekeye who alleged that the former boss of NIMASA was unlawfully arrested explained that, he was picked up by the ICPC after he (Bashir Jamoh) appeared at the Kaduna Court for the hearing of a case in his capacity as a lawyer.
In his words, Adekeye said: ” after he was arrested, the ICPC officials went straight to his residence, conducted a search, and found nothing, but still, he was detained without any charge or explanation of an alleged offense. And since then, he was not allowed to have access to his family members and his lawyer.
” It is on this note, that we are urging the ICPC to work in accordance with their rules of engagement, without any form of interest or sentiment, and to allow him to have access to his family members and his lawyer.
” This does not speak well of the ICPC, as a commission with clear mandates to act in such a way. This is sad, because, we viewed this as an attempt to discredit and oppress a man who had worked for his father’s land diligently, and still contribute to the growth and development of the country.
” Bashir Jamoh is a fine gentleman, he seeks no quarrel with anyone; his respect and popularity come from his integrity, service to the people, and dedication.”
The group therefore urged those who are behind what they described as a shameful act to desist, while also calling on the ICPC to ensure that justice reigns.
” The good people of Kaduna state are behind Bashir Jamoh,” the group emphasized.
