The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, in collaboration with the Borno State Government, announces the upcoming 10th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture on Leadership and Good Governance. The highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, 27th January 2024, in Maiduguri, Borno State.

This year’s theme, “Creating pathways for peace: tackling banditry and insurgency through good governance for sustainable development,” reflects the pressing need to address the challenges of banditry and insurgency in Nigeria. The lecture aims to explore the role of good governance in fostering sustainable development and promoting peace in the nation.

We are honored to announce that His Excellency Prof Tijjani Bande GCON, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former President of the UN General Assembly, will be delivering the keynote address at the event. With his vast experience and expertise in international relations, His Excellency Prof Tijjani Bande GCON will provide valuable insights into tackling banditry and insurgency through effective governance.

We are also delighted to have His Excellency Sen Kashim Shettima GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as the Special Guest of Honor at the event. His presence reflects the importance and recognition of this lecture in addressing critical issues facing our nation.

The Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, His Excellency Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya CON, Executive Governor of Gombe State, will be serving as the Chairperson for this esteemed occasion, while His Excellency Prof Babagana Umara Zulum CON FNSE, FNIAE, mni the Executive Governor of Borno State serves as the Chief Host.

The traditional title holder in Ikulu land in Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna state, Alhaji Isma’ila Yusuf Ashafa has charged people of Ikulu especially youth to always engage in productive activities in order to develop the state and country.

He said for many decades, Ikulu people are known for engaging in traditional handcraft businesses such as black smith, cobbling, traditional barbing, leather work, hunting, and farming among others as their source of income. He therefore, explained that despite the influence of western education those businesses are still relevant in the area

The Saudatu Ahmad Ben Musa Foundation has condemned an airstrike that killed several that killed several civilians
in Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State .

The Foundation extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and stands in solidarity with the people of Tudun Biri community, Afaka, and the entire Kaduna State during this trying time.

In an interview with our correspondence in Kaduna the chairperson of the foundation Hajiya Saudatu Sani said the Foundation is appalled by the deeply tragic actions of the Nigerian army, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives. It is an egregious act that we condemn.

She noted that the use of lethal force against innocent residents is unacceptable and unjustifiable, adding that Bombs and military actions should be targeted at bandits and terrorists, not innocent and peaceful members of our communities.

“The inability to distinguish and protect innocent civilians during military operations is a grave violation of human rights and the rule of law”

“The Saudatu Ahmed Ben Musa Foundation calls for a thorough and detailed investigation into this appalling incident”
” Those responsible for this dastardly attack must be identified, held accountable, and brought to justice.”
According to her”We demand that the Nigerian authorities ensure that all those involved in this unforgivable act face the full force of the law” she said.

“The Foundation insists that adequate compensation should be provided to the families of the victims. Although no financial support can replace the lives that have been lost, it is imperative that the affected families are taken care of during this difficult time”

“It is high time for the military to take decisive action to punish erring members and ensure that such tragic incidents do not occur in the future”
” The safety and security of innocent civilians should be the utmost priority of our armed forces, and any actions to the contrary must be met with swift and appropriate consequences” she added.

Hajiya Saudatu Sani urge the relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively to prevent the recurrence of such a heartbreaking incident and to ensure that justice is served.
